Part 6: Only if you believe it is: Fashion is in the eye of the beholder.

Here we are it seems at the last installment of my ‘ Only if you believe it is’ series. If you remember from the beginning of me writing these, I got the idea from when Alice said that her father could believe in as many as six impossible things before breakfast. So, I thought, “Hmm, six things to make people think about different angles of fashion. Sure.” I hope you have enjoyed reading them!

For Part 6,  I chose to pick a quote that Sarah Jessica Parker ( she is one of my favorite actresses/fashion icons) said in an issue of In Style. It was a big pulled quote written in pink that said;

” People should dress the way they want. Any rules for age or shape are silly. If you walk out of the door feeling good about yourself that’s what counts.”

It’s an interesting quote don’t you think? I can see both sides of what she is saying. I believe in fashion rules. I think we are all built differently and that certain clothing items are more flattering to our figures. Of course, there are rules about patterns, colors, accessorizing too. I try to abide by and study fashion rules. I want to look at an outfit that I have pulled together and think that I got it right. I also believe that we should dress according to our age. A big pet peeve of mine is when I see someone that is trying to look way too young. But, with that all being said, what does it matter if they feel amazing in whatever they are wearing? I can mind my own business and pretend that I didn’t just see a 75 year old woman wearing  a tube top. No biggie. I’ve never seen that, but the world is a rather large place and I’m sure it exists.

I know I have mentioned before that I live in a small town, so when I wear anything out of the norm, it gets a second glance. But, I don’t mind, because I know I study up on fashion. I know there is more to life than jeans and t-shirts. We are individuals and have the right to express our individuality through our style choices. It is hard for me to completely agree on the side of what Sarah is saying about walking out the door and feeling good in whatever you are wearing. I want to work in fashion, so I may think differently about things than people who don’t think about it 24/7.( I have an appointment next week at a local university to see about getting my master’s degree in apparel, textiles and merchandising by the way!;) This could be a really good step for me to reach my goal of working in the fashion industry.)

So, tell me what you think about what Sarah Jessica Parker said. Do you believe in going by the fashion rules or do you just do your own thing?

Now, on to more tips, trends and adventures in the wonderland of fashion…
